We would like to wish our RESPONSE partners the very best as they participate in this year’s Difendiamo il Mare 2021 research and awareness campaign which aims to address the issue of plastic and microplastic pollution in our marine environment.

The tour will launch in Ancona on June 21st, before taking scheduled stops in Pescara, the Tremiti Islands, Bari, Ostuni, Torre Guaceto, and will conclude in Brindisi on the 10th July. This expedition will be preceded by the Moby Litter One Year Later: Impacts, Threats And Opportunities For A Sea In Danger conference which will be available to view live via youtube.

This campaign is promoted by Greenpeace Italy with the scientific support provided by UPM and CNR-IAS and aims to monitor plastic pollution in our seas, study the impact of climate change on mare ecosystems, and also to raise awareness in the public about the issue of marine litter.

This work will build on field sampling activities undertaken as part of the Difendiamo il Mare 2020 research campaign which took place in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The results of this sampling campaign are available via our Publications page.
